INTRODUCTION

Ms Peñaranda Ezpondaburu became involved in professional practice while studying, working in the civil and criminal litigation departments of leading national and international firms and joined Oliva-Ayala in 2019, after completing her studies with two Extraordinary Prizes and an Expert Degree in Legal Theory of Crime. Her experience and theoretical training allow Ana to offer rigorous advice in matters of great technical and financial complexity in all areas of criminal law, procedural law and protection of fundamental rights, as well as in corporate compliance programmes, crime prevention and internal investigations.

Therefore, at Oliva-Ayala she defends the interests of high-level clients in Spain and abroad in all instances of Spanish criminal procedure. Having lived in England, Ms Peñaranda Ezpondaburu also specialises in advising foreign clients and appearing in inter-jurisdictional proceedings, particularly in passive extradition proceedings. She is also experienced in drafting opinions and appeals of particular theoretical difficulty: appeals in cassation before the Supreme Court, appeals for constitutional protection before the Constitutional Court and defence of fundamental rights before the European Court of Human Rights.

To keep her technical knowledge up to date, Ms Peñaranda Ezpondaburu regularly participates in courses, seminars, conferences and other criminal law forums and researches the latest jurisprudential and doctrinal trends. She is the author of several publications on criminal law.

  • Graduate in Law and Political Science and Public Administration from the Autonomous University of Madrid, where she obtained the Extraordinary End of Degree Award and Excellence Scholarships.
  • Diploma with distinction in Politics and International Relations from the University of Kent, Canterbury, England (ERASMUS scholarship).
  • Exchanges with the University of Cambridge in England (during her undergraduate studies).
  • Master’s Degree in Access to the Legal Profession from the Carlos III University of Madrid, where she also earned the Extraordinary Prize for the End of Master’s Degree.
  • Expert Degree in Legal Theory of Crime.
  • Course on Anti-Corruption and Compliance by the Madrid Bar Association.
