Javier Sánchez-Vera Gómez-Trelles is Professor of Criminal Law at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a member of the Madrid Bar Association, with a silver medal due to his 25 years of practice. Before he joined Oliva-Ayala Abogados he worked with Professors Stampa and Cobo del Rosal, also exclusively dedicated to the field of criminal law. Javier Sánchez-Vera’s specialized practice covers Business and Economic Criminal Law, as well as countless cases in all other branches of Criminal Law. He also has a depth knowledge of criminalistics.
Education
Javier Sánchez-Vera holds a PhD in Law from the University of Bonn. He teaches criminal law at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and has been a Professor at the Instituto Universitario de Criminología and in the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria. In addition he has given numerous conferences and taught courses in Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela, among other countries. He has also been Academic Visitor at Oxford University.
Experience
His wide experience before the Courts includes all sorts of criminal proceedings, including jury trials, extradition cases and pardon petitions, in all procedural phases. His practice has covered all sorts of offences in the Criminal Code, and he has been commissioned with the defense of individuals in macro white collar crime cases as well as in demanding cases where very serious penalties were sought by the prosecution. He regularly publishes books and scientific articles which have been positively evaluated by the National Commission to Evaluate Academic Research. In his academic production he offers proposals for solutions to today’s most problematic criminal law issues: on Economic and Business Crimes, the criminal liability of legal entities, the crimes of public officials, coercion, safety at work, privacy and honor, sexual offences, the law on crimes against life, fundamental procedural guarantees, etc. He has been selected by the directories Best Lawyers, Chambers and others among the most relevant lawyers in the specialty of Criminal Law in Spain
